Important information about the lungs

The lung is one of the most important parts of the body, as it is responsible for supplying all the cells of the body with oxygen. Here is the most important information about the lungs and ways to keep them healthy.

Every cell in the body needs oxygen to function properly, so the lungs perform basic functions in the body.

Here is the most important information about the lungs.

Lung components

The right lung has three balloon-like sections, called lobes, that are filled with spongy tissue. The left lung contains only two lobes, and these lobes are located in a special membrane called the pleura that separates the lungs from the chest wall.
The bronchial tubes connect the lungs to the throat and mouth, and these lines line up with a very small hair called cilia that move in wave-like patterns, pushing mucus up the throat, as well as carrying a lot of dust, germs, and other unwanted materials that have invaded the lungs. And get rid of this matter by sneezing or coughing.
At the base of the bronchial tubes are small air sacs that carry the air we breathe and are called alveoli.
The lungs contain as much blood as the rest of the body, and they also produce blood cells. Each time the heart beats, it sends an equal amount of blood to the lungs as it does elsewhere in the body.

The functions of the lungs

The main role of the lungs is to bring air from the air and pass oxygen to the bloodstream. From there, it travels to the rest of the body.
Once air enters the lung, oxygen enters the bloodstream and moves into the body, and each cell performs a process of exchanging carbon dioxide with oxygen, until the bloodstream moves the carbon dioxide into the lungs, and when you breathe out, the carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water vapor are expelled out the body.
There are also many other functions of the lungs, including:
PH Balance: A lot of carbon dioxide is acidic to the body, and if the lung detects its acidity, it increases the rate of ventilation to expel more unwanted gas.
Air filtration: The lungs filter small blood clots, and they can remove small air bubbles known as air blockages if they happen.
Heart protection: The lungs can absorb heart shocks in some health problems.
Prevention of infection: certain membranes are secreted into the lungs to protect them from certain infections

The importance of mucus in the lung

Mucus is an effective anti-infection agent. For example, if bacteria are infected and exposed to mucus, the mucus will stop the growth of bacteria in the throat, while the blood will support the growth of bacteria.
Thus mucus is a protective factor that cannot be lived without, and in the absence of mucus in the lung it will become dehydrated, and in turn, more mucus causes health risks

Ways to keep the lungs healthy

It is recommended to follow some habits that help in maintaining the health of the lungs, namely:

Stay away from smoking: Smoking can increase your risk of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. Where smoking causes airways to narrow and destroy tissues over time, this applies to passive smoking as well.
Prevention of infection: There are some methods that reduce infection in the respiratory system, and include washing hands consistently well, avoiding congestion in the flu season, avoiding allergens such as exposure to harmful chemicals, and obtaining appropriate vaccines.
Exercise: Exercise is one of the most important things that helps in improving lung health and its ability to resist diseases. Therefore, it is advised to exercise regularly daily or for 5 days a week.
Perform regular checkups: Regular checkups help to maintain healthy lungs and detect any problem at an early stage, so treatment will be easier.
Attention to home hygiene: care must be taken to clean house and various surfaces and avoid dust and dust that can cause allergies, and it is advised to constantly ventilate the house well.
